Welcome! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of all my learning experiences, Music Lessons have had the greatest positive impact on my life. From age six through my adult years, they have provided me with an outlet for self-expression and creativity, and a constant source of satisfaction and personal growth. As a kid, I loved to practice, and I still do! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In my studio, I hope my students learn a lot and have fun doing it. I find that students enjoy lessons most when they learn to play music they genuinely like, and when they feel a sense of accomplishemnt and growth. It is so rewarding to see yourself become just a little bit better at something each day! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a piano teacher, my job is to fine-tune curriculum, pace, and style to best-suit each student, to find pieces of music to engage and excite each personality, and to provide supplementary games, activities, and materials to enhance learning and skill-building for each student. I aim to help students become Well-rounded<\/strong> and capable musicians.\u00a0 Depending on each student\u2019s interests, we work on skills such as reading notation, counting rhythms, improvisation, practice strategies, songwriting, chord and accompaniment patterns, playing from a lead-sheet, playing with other musicians, performance preparation, and healthy technique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One other focus in my studio is helping students become part of a Community<\/strong> of Musicians<\/strong>. I encourage students to participate in duets and ensembles together, and arrange informal gatherings a few times a year including mini performance groups, composer groups, performance prep groups, and recitals. Our group atmosphere is one of encouragement and support, with an attitude of sharing our music as a gift to others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am a member of the Alberta Piano Teacher’s Association and an Affiliate Member of the Alberta Music Teacher’s Association. My credentials include two years of a Bachelor\u2019s of Music Degree, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and the Royal Conservatory of Music\u2019s \u201cTeaching Elementary Piano\u201d course. \u00a0I taught privately in Nova Scotia, took time off to be at home with my young children, and began teaching again after moving to Calgary. These days my musical pursuits involve teaching at my home studio, writing and arranging music, and continuing to enjoy my own practice and musical development.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
